People often say to me, "hey, great conference". And I often ask "what made it great for you?" Then, after some dialog, sometimes I'm asked, "what are the conference goals?" It's a great question, and although we may not always deliver everything, here is what we strive to accomplish at all DMI events:
- A place for true networking. Not passing cards, but making friendships and developing working relations with like minded, serious professionals.
- A place to gain knowledge. Knowledge that is diverse, honest, both experience and academic based, and leading edge. About how (not what) and Design (not design).
- Inspiration. Creating stimulating environments, and challenging each person to learn, grow and change, re. a place to be re-energized, challenged, motivated and unified.
- Practical. Sharing tools, processes, secrets, methodologies, what works and what does not.
- Inclusive. International, cross-functional, cross-discipline, cross-industries.
- Open. So that attendees can relax, have fun, and share neat ideas openly.
- Challenging. Timely topics, hard issues, and serious discussions.
- Relevant to what is happening today, while identifying and preparing for what is needed tomorrow.
- Buzz. Proud to be involved, important to participants, onlookers and the media.
- Content based. Creating collective ideas, sharing presentation videos, new papers and reports, open source.
Then people say, "wow, thats a tall order"! It's our challenge, and our pleasure! Tom.
