Remix the bike lane system in NYC?

As someone who “rides into battle” (as I like to call it) with my bike on the streets of New York City, I would like to hear your ideas on how can we redesign the system to create safer streets for cyclists. If you have had the opportunity to ride a bike in Amsterdam then you understand that streets can be made safer for cyclists. But it is much more than just creating safer streets – a cultural impact must be made so that pedestrians and people who drive cars accept that we all share the road.
