Jason Salavon, Jason Salavon Studio
Taking the known and abstracting it into some sort of new space, Jason Salavon manipulates the roles of individual elements arranged in diverse visual populations. Whether using IKEA catalogues or Playboy centerfolds, unexpected patterns emerge as the relationship between the part and the whole, the individual and the group, is explored. Salavon, a former video game artist and current Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago, discusses the realities of common situations and finding the unusual hidden in the data.
